A day or two before your party, pull out all of the serving dishes and table decorations you plan to use at your party. Label each party dish by sticking a Post-It Note to it with the name of the menu item that will go on it. Then arrange and rearrange the party dishes and decorations on your table until you find a tablescape you like. Don't forget to put out any utensils needed, too.
This is a great time to double check your menu list to make sure you haven't forgotten to pull out serving dishes for food items, preventing any last minute stress searching your house for desired serving pieces. If you have any guests arrive early on the day of the party, these labels let them pitch in with minimal instruction, too. These ideas were taken from my favorite entertaining book, The Art and Craft of Entertaining by Kimberly Kennedy.
